During Allergy Awareness Week 26th – 30th April, we are focussing on hay fever, what to look out for, nebulisers and offering some tips for oxygen therapy users.
Take care outside
The Government’s roadmap out of the restrictions that have been in place due to Covid-19 offer hope that social gatherings will be able to resume in the coming months. For most, this means being able to see loved ones and, in the first instance, outside get-togethers will be a step back to a level of normality.
Hay fever is an allergy to pollen and a condition that affects millions of people at varying degrees throughout the spring and summer months. For those of us that suffer from hay fever, the prospect of spending more time outside could lead to greater exposure to pollen.

Several treatments including those that are available over the counter will depend on your needs. Talk to your healthcare professional or doctor to discover what allergy medicine is right for you.
Nebulisers are often used for those people with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other breathing-related conditions and facilitate the administration of nebulised medicines directly into the lungs.

Tips for those on oxygen therapy
CPAP machines
Most CPAPs will have filters that need to be cleaned or replaced regularly which is vital for maximum filtration to rid the air you breathe of any particles. Masks and tubing must be cleaned and replaced regularly as well to prevent bacteria build-up.
Oxygen concentrators
Filters will need to be changed regularly including air inlet filters which are often external and should be washed then thoroughly dried. Cannulas and tubing must be cleaned and replaced regularly to prevent bacteria build-up
